Réalisées pour le Goethe Institut du Caire ces peintures murales reprises depuis un manuscrit du 14e s. sont peintes sur un fonds de journaux d’actualité égyptiens et allemands.

Le texte original des fables de Kalila & Demna fut rédigé en sanscrit au IIe s. par le philosophe Bidpai. À travers des fables animalières il traite de plusieurs sujets, notamment la relation entre le dirigeant et le gouverné, l’amitié et l’inimitié avec un nombre de sagesses et de morales.
Les fables ont été traduites en arabe au VIIIe s. ce qui leur a valu une large diffusion à travers le monde.

Les peintures murales créent un raccourci entre notre « actualité » et ces contes philosophiques, avec un regard ironique sur les « évènements » de l’actualité qui se chassent l’un derrière l’autre face à la permanence des attitudes humaines observé sur un long terme.

Produced for the Goethe Institut in Cairo, these murals enlarged from a 14th-century manuscript, are painted on a background of Egyptian and German newspapers.

The original text of the Kalila & Demna fables was written in Sanskrit in the 2nd century by the philosopher Bidpai. Through animal fables, he deals with a number of subjects, including the relationship between ruler and ruled, friendship and enmity, and a number of wisdoms and morals.
The fables were translated into Arabic in the 8th century, giving them a wide circulation throughout the world.

The murals create a shortcut between our « current events » and these philosophical tales, with an ironic look at the « events » of the day that are chased one after the other versus the permanence of human attitudes observed over the long term.
