Coptes du Nil

Les coptes, sont les chrétiens d’Égypte, représentent aujourd’hui environ dix pour cent de la population du pays. D'un christianisme orthodoxe original, cette communauté connaît actuellement un regain spirituel et identitaire.

Décrire en images ce que Copte veut dire aujourd'hui, c'est la tâche que je me suis donnée. De 1997 à 2004 j'ai suivi les fêtes religieuses, des pèlerinages et des familles dans leur vie privée et leur pratique religieuse.

L'approche est double : celle, systématique et documentaire du reporter et celle, intimiste et affective, tentant de remonter aux sources de ma propre culture.

Réalisée en 2004, cette série de compositions thématiques, faites à partir de reportages sur huit années. Elle a été exposée à :

Copts of the Nile 

The Copts are the Egyptian Christians who represent today a mere 10% of the country’s population. An original orthodox Christianity that represents the core foundation of this community, which is currently experiencing a spiritual and existential rebound.

It was a challenge to describe in pictures what being Copt could mean today. Through their life styles in private and their religious practices I aimed to highlight their specifics and differences from 1997 to 2004.

The approach was double: the reporter one, systematic and documenting and on another side, a more intimist and affective approach, trying to return to the basics of my own culture.

Composed in 2004, this series of thematic compositions, is made out coverings over eight years and was showed at:
